Cards made with Navy & White Emboss Resist Backgrounds

Here are the cards I promised to make with the background layers from Beautiful Backgrounds #1: Navy & White Emboss Resist. The idea here is to let the backgrounds take center stage.

I used Thick Whisper White cardstock for most of the card bases and Night of Navy for a couple for a different look. I used matting layers of Whisper White with the Night of Navy card bases and also lined those insides with Whisper White to make it easier to write a note. I also used Real Red and Night of Navy cardstock for some simple matting and layering. All the sentiments are stamped in Night of Navy ink onto Whisper White cardstock. I added some small embellishments to finish the cards.

Flagging one end of the cardstock and adding rhinestones give the sentiment a little pizzazz. The sentiment is from a retired Christmas stamp set called Oh, What Fun.

This card can be used to celebrate anything. Customize the card with a sentiment stamp for the inside or leave it blank to write a note. I used Night of Navy cardstock for the card base and added a layer of Whisper White behind the embossed background. The “celebrate” is diecut from Real Red using a die from the Celebrate You thinlit dies.

I fussy cut the sentiment for this card. It comes from the All Things Thanks stamp set. I backed it with a Night of Navy circle punched with a 2″ Circle punch to make the sentiment stand out just a little more.

A very simple design for a nice thank you card. I accidentally cut the embossed navy layer smaller than I had planned, but it turned out okay. This card is the second one I made with a Night of Navy card base and a Whisper White layer under the emboss resist background layer. I stamped “For Everything” inside the card.

What a great sentiment for a card for a special person! Love that sentiment. It comes from the Petal Palette stamp set. I added a bit of the retired Night of Navy corduroy ribbon and some rhinestones.

“Just a Note” seemed like the perfect sentiment to pair with the Post Script background stamp. The sentiment comes from the Flourishing Phrases stamp set. It is die cut with an oval from the Stitched Shapes framelits. I used a little piece of the Night of Navy corduroy ribbon behind the oval.

Another great sentiment to use for a special occasion or for every day. I used the Stitched Shapes framelits again to cut out the Real Red layer behind the sentiment. To get the size of layer I wanted, I traced the inside of the die around my sentiment and cut it out by hand. I used a length of Real Red grosgrain ribbon that has been retired for years but was still in my stash.

Again, a really simple layout with a little ribbon for embellishment. More Night of Navy ribbon from my stash–got to get that stash used up! “Just Breathe” is from the Colorful Seasons stamp set.

I had a Real Red oval sitting on my desk that I thought I was going to use earlier, but it worked here. The sentiment is actually punched out with the Everyday Label punch, but I trimmed it a bit to fit inside the oval. I put a silver star brad on each side of the sentiment. If I had the Basic Brads, I would have used those since the set includes Night of Navy brads. I haven’t ordered any of the new brads yet, so back to my stash.

For cards like these, let the backgrounds shine. Use up little embellishments from your stash if you think the card needs a little something extra. If you don’t have the right color of ribbon, you can always use a strip of cardstock in your desired color. Now it’s your turn to escape to your craft space and make some cards to have on hand when you need one to send to a friend.
